History of The Great Yoga Wall System
Invented in the 1980s by Kedric Wolfe (Pictured), Aadil Palkhivala, and Bryan Legere, The Great Yoga Wall™ evolved from B.K.S. Iyengar’s original rope wall system. Designed to improve upon the traditional wall hooks, Wolfe created a flat, modern plate system with adjustable straps and pelvic swings for therapeutic traction.
Origins and Evolution
The Inspiration: Kedric Wolfe, a practitioner, invented the modern, flat surface system after injuring his foot on a protruding hook from the older, traditional rope-and-hook system.
The Development: In the 1980s, Wolfe collaborated with yoga teachers Aadil Palkhivala and Bryan Legere to refine the system, adding, versatile, adjustable plates that accommodate various body types.
The Improvement: This version allowed for more precise, infinitely adjustable positioning, creating a safer and more versatile tool compared to the earlier, rigid, rope-based systems (yoga kurunta) popularised by B.K.S. Iyengar in the 60s and 70s

About Yoga Wall Ireland by Suzanne Kenny
Suzanne began her yoga journey in 2001 while studying for her degree at University College Dublin. Initially, yoga offered her invaluable tools to manage the physical and mental demands of college life, particularly during exam periods. What started as a supportive practice soon evolved into a deeper passion, leading Suzanne to explore a wide range of yoga styles available across Dublin.
In 2004, she made the decisive commitment to immerse herself fully in her practice by enrolling in a 500-hour teacher training programme with Yoga Therapy Ireland. Upon completing the two-year course, Suzanne embraced her love of teaching and began offering classes full-time throughout North County Dublin, building a strong and loyal community of students.
In 2011, Suzanne had the opportunity to train with Christopher Harrison, the creator of Antigravity Aerial Yoga. Inspired by the transformative experience of working with aerial hammocks alongside traditional mat-based practice, she went on to establish Swords’ first yoga studio in Airside Retail Park that same year. Yoga4all was born, becoming Dublin’s first dedicated aerial yoga studio and a hub for innovation, growth, and continued learning in both aerial and mat-based methodologies.
Fast forward to 2023, and following a move to the Wicklow Mountains, Suzanne continued to experiment creatively with props and alternative setups—adapting her aerial hammock in unconventional spaces such as doorframes and tree branches. Her curiosity led her to discover the Great Yoga Wall system. Having previously explored traditional rope wall methods, she recognised their limitations in comfort compared to aerial hammocks. However, this new system—utilising slings and belts instead of ropes—offered a more supportive and versatile approach.
Through her research, Suzanne connected with Letitia Walker of Purna Yoga, a respected teacher who trained under Aadil Palkhivala, one of the original developers of the yoga wall system. Letitia’s approach—focused on deepening practice through creativity, support, and play—resonated strongly with Suzanne. After completing both Level 1 and Level 2 trainings, Suzanne became deeply inspired by the method and knew she wanted to bring the Great Yoga Wall system to her studio in Swords, confident that her students would embrace and enjoy it as much as she does.
